Digicomm Group


Digicomm is an active informal group dedicated to all aspects related to digital communications, within the University of Bologna, enrooted in the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and Systems (DEIS) and in the Advanced Research Center for Electronics Systems (ARCES).

 

Main Goals

  • help the individual in developing, assessing, and expressing all of his/her potential inside and outside of Digicomm

Digicomm pursues the empowerment of human resources ensuring equal opportunities, considering technical, managerial, behavioural aspects, enforcing management by objectives and project based organization, building a network of intelligent cells interacting through common platforms of interpersonal values, and promoting the exchange of ideas and competences, and personnel mobility.

 

 

Digicomm pursues the achievement of scientific excellence in communication and information theory, technologies and systems, by promoting top-rank individual and team-based basic and applied scientific research, through the exploration and development of original concepts, new ideas, significant solutions to challenging, established and novel problems, approaches and methods in diversified areas of competence; to receive highest scientific recognition at world wide academic and industrial level for Digicomm and its members, setting up effective international cooperation links and contributing to international journals, conferences and producing scientific books. Digicomm research exploits several and diversified skills and methods, including lateral thinking and creativity, design and analysis, simulations and demonstrations.

Digicomm pursues tightly intertwined interaction, cross-breeding and collaboration with society at large, including institutional entities, industry, and the scientific community. The fundamental contribution to society is read in terms of breakthrough knowledge generation, management, and transfer in all forms, including publications, seminars directed to non-technical audiences, and the creation and maintenance of a dedicated web site. Technological intellectual property is protected through patents, which should be finally transferred to industry for competitiveness enhancement and reduction of non-recurrent engineering costs, or should be the basis for academic spin-off industries and joint ventures. Digicomm aims at participating to international and national projects and networks of excellence with broad industrial and academic participation, both for financial self-support in terms of facilities, travelling, and personnel, and for establishing fruitful international synergies, relationships and partnerships. Financing entities include as a minimum the European Commission and the European Space Agency. Consultancy agreements with industry are pursued, along with training on the job and stages opportunities. Participation and leadership of specialized task-forces, industrial advisory boards, standardization committees, technical committees, scientific editorial boards and reviewing procedures are encouraged, along with the organization of scientific events such as conferences and workshops.
